About the program

The center aims to build an ideal international creative community that supports serious artists and writers by providing them with the seclusion of distraction-free working time, the companionship of professional peers, and the option of the counsel of inspired mentors. Residents receive individual studios, private rooms and all meals, plus access to prominent Visiting Artists and Writers offering slide talks, readings and studio visits. MFA program available with Northern Vermont University.

Location

Vermont Studio Center is located in Johnson, a traditional Vermont village set in the heart of the Green Mountains on the banks of the Gihon River, in northern Vermont.

Technical information

VSC has a well-equipped wood and metal shop including MIG, TIG, Oxy-Acetylene, metal band saw, wood band saw, table saw, radial-arm miter saw, pneumatic tools for wood and stone carving, and a full array of power and hand tools. They do not yet have a forge.
Additionally, there are two electric kilns, printmaking facilities, and a media/computer lab.

What the Artist pays

For every application, there are Fellowships that support all residency fees available through a competitive, juried process. Approximately one third of all VSC residents receive Fellowships each year. In addition, through the generosity of individual donors and foundation partners, VSC offers grants that significantly reduce the fee of each residency. These reduced fees are $3,000 for two weeks, $4,250 for three weeks, and $5,500 for four weeks.
