About the program

Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture is a not for profit, artist run initiative, established in 2011, in a Tai Yuan (ไทยวน) civilization town of Ratchaburi province, Thailand. Its independent project is organized by artists with a trans-disciplinary background between art, theory & diverse sciences with the aim to support and boost artistic experience and community development. The program invites artists from around the world to develop work within the “International Residency Program” in a community, communally used and remodeled space for a period of 3 weeks -3 months.To promote contemporary art within an universal and specific context, to stimulate creativity through direct contact with urban and the local of Nongpho community, to set up an exchange of ideas in contemporary art with local as well as international artists from various disciplines of contemporary art practice.

Each artist or group artist will have the opportunity to develop his/her or their project within a number of different artistic fields and post studio. All artists have the chance to show and promote their work in the program. It can help organized exhibition openings, as well as press conferences and campaigns to inform the public about the activities. The program include artist talks, studio discussion – in groups and one to one – social events and professional development. Central to the program is a focus on working as an artist in Nongpho community, a district which offers opportunities to investigate community life, multidisciplinary practice and to visit art institutions, art space and artist-run spaces. Each participating artist will shape their own experience, striking a personal balance between independent studio time and the community.

AIR program in Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture are mainly run by Baan Noorg via invitation and self-financing by individual artist. By-Project-Air will be held by Baan Noorg’ in collaboration with institutions, museums and art centers. We would like to try to create more opportunities for artist who are passionate in art, cultural exchange and interested in exploring the culture of local Thai and making new art in a community. We welcome different status artists, curators, researcher to join our program, such as established artists and curators, emerging artists and curators or art students from overseas.

Participants receive all documentation necessary to apply for funding and the visa process. If required, the project can assist with additional individual reference letters. Artists can apply to participate upon their convenient session: January – June / July – December

Accommodation information

We provide accommodation at Baannoorg Commulab, a room with capacity for 2 persons. Share studio at baannoorg commulab and basic tools at baannoorg studio. We appreciate artists on post studio work.

Studio information

Our “International Residence Program” fuses the use of studio space with internal and external program activities. The Studio space consists of: one furnished up to 30m² large communal hall including wifi and all side costs (water, energy, kitchen, toilet etc.)
Approximately 1-2 artists per month working in the space.

What the AiR provides

The project offers one shared studio limited for two artists. The Program activities consists of studio visits, local museum tours, scheduled art critiques, an art talk by our residents, as well as open studio.

What the Artist pays

Since Baan Noorg’ is an artist run self-financing organization, residency artist has to responsible for the travel, materials, food and transport during the stay or apply funding from institution to cover their stay.

Invited artist will be supported by Baan Noorg, depending on each project’s condition
For the AIR program fee (via Open Call)

  • Full costs / participation fee: 80USD/week and depending on each year term and condition. Applicant with support institution can attach with proof of funding letter.
    Costs cover – bedroom, studio space, basic studio equipment and administration support.

  • A prior payment of US$30 per artist is required to hold the place in the program, not refundable, refundable by cancellation (3 months before the residency starts)
    The fee covers the studio & the accommodation cost

  • Travel costs, art materials & extra are additional. Additional fee is requested for the exhibition, depending on each artist’s work scale and project.
