Repositioning: Kyoto, Asia and the World within the Contemporary Art Ecosystem

Today, what we call the contemporary art community is made up of myriad elements including artists, museums, galleries, international exhibitions, art fairs, art schools, and local communities, interlocking in locations around the world. This contemporary art ecosystem of different values, views of history, economic ideas, and generations entwined in complex ways, requires us to take in the whole while simultaneously being aware of our own position therein. At ICA Kyoto, which aims to forge connections with Asia, and the rest of the world, from its base in Japan’s ancient capital, working with the many local art ecosystems that comprise that world, we hope to join in building a vision for the multifaceted world in which we live, and engage in deeper discussion with a view to crafting a better future.
As ICA Kyoto embarks on the 2025 fiscal year with a new structure, ICA Kyoto Talk 055 “Repositioning: Kyoto, Asia and the World within the Contemporary Art Ecosystem” will talk about our aims from now on.
